Thanks to strategic funding from LJMU to areas of excellence, we are able to offer two new posts within the LT Group. The new posts, based in Liverpool, are "LT Astronomer in Charge" (Vacancy Ref 147) and "LT2 project scientist" (Vacancy Ref 198).
The Astronomer in Charge will be an experienced observational astronomer who will lead a small team of staff managing the day-to-day operation and maintenance of telescope. In addition they will be expected to carry out an internationally leading programme of astronomical research, ideally exploiting the LT. Salary will be in the range £46,846 to £52,706.
The LT2 project scientist is a PDRA-level post working with the LT Director to develop the science case and specification for a new telescope ("LT2"). The PDRA will be expected to develop a wide understanding of current and future facilities and science challenges in time domain astrophysics and identify areas where a new facility could make a unique, world leading contribution. This may involve the simulation of data from LT2 for example. In addition we expect they will carry out a programme of research in time domain astrophysics using the LT. Salary will be in the range £30,122 - £35,939.
For both posts the closing date for applications will be 30th April 2012.
